Listening to 1001 albums
before I die

A playlist, yesterday

There’s a book, and of course a playlist, called “1001 Albums You Should Hear Before You Die”.

It’s already several years out of date, so you have to take the whole premise with a pinch of salt.

Nonetheless: “I’ll listen to all of them,” I said to myself earlier this year.

“In alphabetical order, by album title,” I added. Just to make things more interesting.

So far: 101 albums in 6 months

I’m not only listening to these 1001 albums. I tend to stick the playlist on while I’m working at home, so usually I’ll get through a batch of albums on one day, then not listen to any more until a week or two later.

Working through at that rate, it’s taken me 6 months to listen to 101 of the 1001 albums.

Today, I hit album number 101: Bridge Over Troubled Water, by Simon and Garfunkel.

I’m documenting my progress on this page.

I’ve heard quite a lot of the albums before, but not as many as I arrogantly expected at the start. There’s been a lot of albums I’ve never heard at all, and a few that I could have sworn I should have heard by now, but haven’t.

I’ve ended up listening to artists and genres I would never normally listen to, so that’s a good thing.

It’s pretty clear that I need to up the pace a bit. I don’t want this to take 5 years. Need to get a move on.
