Flooding in Bradford on Avon

Published in life.

This was a pretty serious event. The Avon rose higher than the ends of the bridge that crosses it in the centre of town. A number of shops and homes were flooded.

My blue room

Published in life.

Over the top of a pair of half-moon spectacles with expensive-looking frames that match his expensive-looking tie and expensive-looking suit, the medical consultant gives me a meaningful look. “We’re going to need a sample from you, young man,” he declares. His voice is boomy, too loud for these surroundings. He has an extravagant double chin. […]

Weeknote / Bash our heads together

Published in weeknotes.

This week was about planning and preparing. Writing and re-writing scripts for a couple of films at GDS. We don’t normally write scripts for the films we make, but these ones are a bit different. Both of them have very specific things to say. They’re not so much about telling a story, more about explaining a […]

Bad transport poetry

Published in projects.

Buy now: £5 (including delivery) Bad transport poetry is a collection of really awful poems about trains and buses and the things I think when I’m travelling on them. Which is quite often. I love the Harbourside fest. A day of madness in the sun. And it is always sunny. Usually. Mostly. More photos

The stag party

Published in life.

The groom-to-be is thin, nervous-looking, with a pointed trimmed beard that makes his thin face look even thinner. The train is crowded, so he and his stag party compatriots can’t sit all together. They spread themselves out across a few rows of seats, twisting and turning to look round at one another, conducting their conversation […]

Backstage with Kraftwerk

Published in music, pop moments, satire.

SCENE: A backstage dressing room inside an internationally famous arts venue in a European capital city. The walls are bare brick or raw concrete. A plain white desk sits in the centre, with a single plain white plastic chair. On the desk there is a single small tablet computer, which bleeps occasionally. The four members […]
