: review of bjork live at Cambridge Corn Exchange

Bjork's live appearence in Cambridge last week was the best gig I have ever seen.
Starting with the slower, atmospheric songs from the most recent "Homogenic" album, and following with more energetic numbers from the previous albums, she created a live atmosphere like no-one else can.
Lots of people have tried to mix strings and beats together before, but no-one has accomplished it quite the way Bjork has.
The gorgeousness of "Unravel" or "Bachelorette" was astounding, given that this was being reporduced live and not in a studio. Bjork's live voice is at least as good as her recorded efforts, and her delight at playing to a small audience was clear.
This gig was not an official date in the current tour. It was only advertised on photcopied sheets of A4 pinned up in central Cambridge. The idea was to get a good crowd into a small venue to shoot a live video, which I believe will be released in 1999.
Bjork relished the small gig atmosphere - as did the crowd. Everyone felt there was something really special about the night.
I have been a Bjork fan since the first Sugarcubes single, and saw them live a couple of times. But never before have I been struck by a voice, some strings and beats.
The woman is a true genius.
