Ending Unreel
a year of home-made radio

After a year of recording my Unreel radio show from our spare bedroom, I’ve called it a day and hung up my headphones for another time. Some of the shows are still archived online if you want to listen (again).

My love of music hasn’t faded, but my motivation for sitting in the spare room for about an hour and a half each week has.

I’ve learned that:

• radio isn’t technically very hard to do - it’s just knobs and buttons and being gobby
• there is a lot of skill required to turn the knobs and press the buttons correctly, and that’s a skill I still have much to learn about
• there is also a lot to be said for good being gobby, not bad being gobby; I was mostly bad
• recording from home isn’t nearly as much fun as using an actual studio

Not the end

This is the end of Unreel, but I hope not the end of my radio adventures. I’m interested in doing another show, another day, hopefully back in a studio again. That would be nice.

But for the time being, it’s good to have a little break.
